Deal-breaker first: a credit balance means nothing until you know what one credit buys. One Star buys one image and ten buy a 720p video. The pack you bought that Star from decides whether it cost you 33 cents or 10.
That spread is the whole problem with credit systems. A balance only becomes useful once you convert it into photos and clips, so here's the conversion.

You ask for her curled up on a couch, the photo lands, and one more tap turns that exact scene into a ~5-second clip in about a minute. That's ten times the photo's price for five seconds of motion, so I'd treat it as an occasional extra and keep photos as the everyday spend.

Why a Video Can Cost 5 or 10 Stars
The "video" row in the table has two numbers. Both are correct, and the one you pay depends on where and how you generate.
The Generator's Batch Math
In the Generate tab, images run 1, 2, 4 or 8 per run at 1 Star each. An 8-image batch costs 8 Stars, with no volume discount. Videos run 1, 2 or 4 per run.
Resolution Changes the Price
The list price is 5 Stars per video, and a 720p video is 10 Stars. The generator offers 480p, 720p and 1080p, but we couldn't pin every resolution to a Star price. That gap is covered in the honesty section further down.

Remix Saves Setup, Not Stars
Remix on a Feed clip opens the generator with that clip's character, action, outfit and scene already set. You skip the setup, but you still pay full price: the run is priced per output.

So check the resolution before you tap Generate. That setting decides whether a video costs 5 Stars or 10.
